Theologian Stanley Hauerwas to speak in Marietta

Dr. Stanley Hauerwas, named “America’s Best Theologian” in 2001 by Time magazine, will speak at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 2, at St. James’ Episcopal Church, 161 Church St., Marietta. There is no admission charge, and the program is open to the public. Hauerwas is the Gilbert T. Rowe professor of theological ethics at Duke University Divinity School and also teaches for Duke’s law school. He is the author of more than 30 books including The Peaceable Kingdom, Resident Aliens and a newly released theological memoir, Hannah’s Child. Hauerwas is a graduate of Southwestern University and Yale Divinity School and earned a Ph.D.  from Yale University.  Upon delivering the prestigious Gifford Lectures in Scotland, he was awarded an honorary degree from The University of Edinburgh.
